Overview
If you make a mistake when matching or categorising a bank transaction, don't worry. You can unmatch the bank transaction from the In/Out document in one click.
Unmatching resets everything to the way it was before you categorised/matched the transaction and you can start again. We don't currently support editing In/Out docs with linked bank transactions, but we likely will in the future!
Unmatching
- Find the transaction you want to unmatch. You can do this in one of three ways:
- In the Ins & Outs screen, find the In/Out document
- In Bank Transactions, find the original bank transaction (make sure you're on the "All" tab to see everything)
- Run a Report in Easy Reports, such as a Profit & Loss, General Ledger Summary, General Ledger Detail or Category Detail report. From here you can drill-down to see individual documents in one click.
- The View Outgoing (or View Incoming) screen will display
- Click the Unmatch button in the top right and confirm to Unmatch in the confirmation dialog.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: Can I edit an in/out document that is linked to a bank transaction instead of unmatching it?
A: No, not currently. We will review this in future. You can edit an unmatched In/Out (i.e. a manually created expense or income item). You can also edit the Description (but only the description) of an in/out document linked to a bank transaction. This can be useful to correct or update a note after-the-fact to add more context to a document.
Q: What happens if I unmatch an invoice payment?
A: If the invoice was previously fully paid, it will be reset and no longer show as fully paid. The outstanding amount will re-calculate. If you generate a new customer statement, the invoice will show as unpaid (or partially paid). No communication is sent to the Customer when invoice payments are matched/unmatched.
